Would You Fly an Airplane Without Lessons?

Today I’m flying for business and it got me thinking about doing things that we aren’t trained to do. For instance, who would ever consider flying a plane without going through ground school or flying lessons to obtain a license? I certainly wouldn’t—and I’m hoping you responded the same!

Yes, I know this is an extreme example, but it begs another question—would you handle your own social media marketing if it’s an area that you didn’t have expertise in? I wouldn’t consider representing myself in court (not that I anticipate needing that!) or replacing my dental implant. Heck, I don’t even complete my own tax return! I’d rather leave those jobs to a professional with the expertise to complete the task.

The skills required to complete any of those tasks are definitely not part of my wheelhouse—I’d most certainly be better off having someone else assist me. And I bet you’d rather focus on the parts of your business that you are skilled in, over other responsibilities that come along day-to-day in running a business. It could be legal work, accounting, HR or any number of things. But sometimes as a small business owner finds it hard to juggle everything, including marketing & social media.

Sometimes it just makes sense to ask for help, especially when social media marketing is evolving and changing –it seems like daily. And consider this: Almost 90% of marketers say their social marketing efforts have increased exposure for their business. And 75% say they’ve increased traffic.

A few more reasons to consider turning your social media marketing over to a specialist might include:

  • A new perspective to evaluate your business and review your social media & marketing plans bringing creativity and fresh ideas.
  • To bring consistency to your marketing plan. Find someone that committed to the marketing plan and strategy to accomplish your goals for the long term.
  • Time savings is another big benefit. Instead of fretting over what to do with your social media, you can take care of other matters in your business!
